about

Both my art school and electro-acoustic music teachers hated this music.

This is mostly the 19-year-old me in a gloomy student studio making music on a gray Apple eMac G3. Thanks to the French education system, I was able to use fancy recording equipment. I can't remember which microphone it was, but the recorder was a very good DAT from the Césaré Studio in Reims. I met Luc Ferrari there and was lucky enough to hear him play on a big acousmonium.

Before I started recording, please note that I turned off the fridge in my "studio".

It was a lot of GRM plugins running on ProTools. Unfortunately, I had no idea what midi was at the time, and I was extremely short of money, so there was no way I could buy a fancy synthesiser or sequencer. The whole thing is basically me cutting up bits of sounds and pasting them together with digital scotch, "bouncing" (fancy ProTools word for exporting a sequence or set of sequences) and then giving it to some friends who will never talk about it because they were more interested in going to the next vernissage.

I had an electric guitar from my teenage years at the time, I think you can hear it on the last track.

I am not really sure what the music is about. It's mostly about being depressed and thinking that it's very difficult to be an artist, I guess.
